Instruments, Anyone?
In the past, I have ordered instruments from a wholesaler for parents to purchase as holiday gifts. Should I do that again? You can get an idea of the things available by going to instruments on the web site.
You can also order instruments from Kindermusik. They are having a warehouse sale (20-85% off) going on right now (11/16/08): http://www.kindermusik.com/Shop/Shop.aspx
I know that instruments help with development, but is there a better age to purchase instruments for? I don't feel inclined to get anything more than a shaker for my 14 month old. But I'll check out the sale. As far as your question goes... Don't order anything extra on my account.
At 14 months, shakers and scarves are very appropriate. The rainbow rainstick or any other clear shaker would also be a good because of the visual/audible connection. As for drums, my kids always used wooden spoons on pots and pans :-) There is a lot to be said for exploring every-day objects and discovering their sound possibilities.
Beware of Kindermusik International's shipping charges. They have gone up a lot recently, and shipping a single item may not be worth the cost. On the other hand, they are selling their former Do Re Me and You line for a fraction of the original price.
I plan to order some shakers, scarves, and sticks from a wholesaler to offer parents for holidays. I also have some items left over from last year. I'll bring them to the classroom after Thanksgiving.
